Kogan Creek Power Project – Boiler Construction

CBH are contracted to Babcock-Hitachi K.K., Japan to undertake the construction of a 750 MW supercritical coal fired boiler for the Kogan Creek Power Project.

In January 2005, CBH commenced mobilisation of our site facilities, construction equipment and construction workforce.

First steelwork erection occurred during June 2005.   The construction program established for the project is the shortest ever planned for an Australian power station and in particular this is the largest single generating unit in Australia.

The Top Girders are due for positioning in August 2005 and the erection of the pressure parts will follow.

Our construction activities are planned for completion in early 2007.

An accommodation facility at Chinchilla will house a majority of our workforce engaged on the boiler erection.  Other employees are sourced from the local Dalby/ Chinchilla region.

Pioneer Sugar Mill – Boiler No. 2 Upgrade

CBH are nearing completion of a major boiler upgrade on a Babcock & Wilcox bagasse fired boiler at Pioneer Sugar Mill.

This project is associated with CSR Sugar Mills’ Cogeneration Plant at Pioneer Mill.

We were awarded the contract in late July 2004 and executed the design, supply, construction and commissioning of the upgrade on a Fee/ Reimbursable/ Target Cost basis under CSR Sugar Mills EPCM, United KG.   An aggressive programme was established by CSR and CBH approached the contract in an open and cooperative spirit in order to achieve CSR’s objectives.

The scope included additional Pressure Part waterwalls for increased furnace sizing, new superheater, FD Fan, ID Fans, FD and ID Ducting, Boiler Feed Pumps, Deaerator, Supporting Steelwork, Access Galleries and Stairways, Valves, Instruments, Piping and Supports.

Our experienced Project Team both on and off site demonstrated their expertise under some very exceptional circumstances that occurred during a number of phases of the contract.

Before Construction

During Construction

CBH Site Management, Supervisors and Construction workforce engaged on the construction were chosen from our very large pool of skilled tradesmen with proven competence.  These resources were supplemented by our experienced Commissioning team.

During the part dismantling and re-construction of the existing boiler, CBH maintained an excellent safety record together with a high quality level of workmanship.

This project was unique, as major design changes were required to the B & W Boiler to increase steam output to 240 tonnes/ hour and improve boiler efficiency.   In addition, reduced particulate emissions from the Stack were required to satisfy EPA requirements.   The provision of horizontal Wet Scrubbers was incorporated to reduce emissions.

Near Completion

Queensland Nickel Industries, Townsville – Major Boiler Refurbishment

CBH has recently completed a major refurbishment for the second of three (3) oil fired boilers at QNI’s Nickel Refinery at Yabulu, near Townsville.

Refurbishment of Boiler No. 1 was extensive on these Mitsubishi boilers and included complete pressure part (waterwalls and headers) replacement, Superheater, finned tube Economiser, Oil Burners, casing, Air and Gas Ducting, Insulation and Cladding, integral piping, valves, access platforms and stairways.   Boiler No. 2 was a major overhaul of similar scope, but to a lesser extent than No. 1 with only partial replacement of pressure parts.
